Sustainable Environment

In 2010, the Board of Supervisors adopted the Board Policies on Sustainability to establish a vision that addresses the emerging societal challenges posed by the changing climate and racial inequities and prioritizes building resilience and serving the historically marginalized and vulnerable community members.   The focus is to increase the economic and social vitality of the community, regulate development, protect the natural environment, mitigate health and safety risks and conserve natural resources.

Greenness of Vehicles
The Facilities and Fleet Department seeks to increase the number of green vehicles to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint. Greening of the fleet demonstrates the County’s commitment to being less dependent on fossil fuels and impact to the environment. Measured on a per vehicle basis, the department collects and analyzes data via the Fleet Management System.

Intelligent Traffic Signal System - Total Expressway Travel Time
The total travel time measure is illustrative of the performance of the expressway system in moving traffic.  The County invests in the expressway system through its Capital Improvement Program to improve safety for users and/or improve carrying capacity.  This measure is designed to gauge the effectiveness of investments in traffic capacity through traditional roadway improvements and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects.
The chart shows the total expressway travel time during AM and PM peak times.
