The Medical Examiner-Coroner (ME-C) is actively working towards accreditation by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). The ME-C will measure the percentage of reports of postmortem examination completed within 90-days in accordance with NAME standard F.4.k which states that 90% of these reports are to be completed within 90-days. In previous years, the ME-C reported the average number of days for a report to be completed. We have revised this metric to report the percentage of reports completed within 90-days to accurately reflect the NAME standard and to incorporate updated data based on continued case closure. Almost half of the 10,000 deaths in Santa Clara County (~5,000) in a year are reportable to ME-C. The turnaround times for reports from the ME-C impacts law enforcement, hospitals, and families.
