The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department provides an overview of SARS-CoV-2 virus concentration in wastewater samples collected at wastewater treatment facilities that serve people in Santa Clara County.

Protocol of Sample Collection & Testing: Samples for testing consist of “settled solids” from wastewater entering each treatment plant. Samples are collected 7 days a week from the wastewater treatment plants and are transported daily to a commercial lab for analysis. Laboratory staff process the samples to quantify pieces of the SARS-CoV-2 viral genome in the wastewater. These procedures use methods to concentrate solids and extract RNA and detect viral RNA. Results are typically ready within 24 hours of sample drop-off and are uploaded to this page. The quick turnaround and posting are one of the major advantages of utilizing this data.

Interpretation of Plots: Data reflected in the table below shows the results for one SARS-CoV-2 gene (N gene), and the concentrations are “normalized” by the concentration of a plant virus that is harmless to humans but is shed in stool (pepper mild mottle virus, or PMMoV). Normalizing by PMMoV adjusts for changes in the amount of feces in the sample and the efficiency of the procedures from day to day.

Wastewater typically contains waste from a variety of sources, such as from your shower or a commercial process. These types of waste do not have stool (which is the source of SARS-CoV-2) so they dilute the sample. Therefore, we adjust this sample to the known amount of feces in the wastewater to get an accurate result.
The curves displayed are the “7-day trimmed average” of the sample results. This is done by using 7 consecutive samples, eliminating the maximum and minimum among the 7 samples, and then taking the mean. The smoothing is right aligned. Trends in wastewater have been shown to track trends in COVID incidence.

The dataset summarizes counts and rates of cumulative COVID-19 deaths by zip code in Santa Clara County. When a death occurs at a Long Term Care Facility (LTCF), the death will be counted for the zip code in which the LTCF is located; so zip codes with large LTCFs or LTCFs that experienced an outbreak may have higher death counts for this reason. Information about the number of LTCF deaths in the county can be found on the LTCF dashboard.Source: California Reportable Disease Information Exchange.

The dataset provides number of county residents who are vaccinated by age group. Number of people vaccinated (completed primary series) is the number of county residents who either received a vaccine requiring a single dose (Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) or received the second dose of a vaccine requiring two doses (Pfizer or Moderna). Source: California Immunization Registry. This table is updated Monday-Friday and will not be updated on holidays.

The County Probate Cases Collection consists of approximately 2,100 cases heard by the Probate Court between May 1893 and September 1908, and 144 sets of probate vouchers that range from 1901 to 1913, and 1965 to 1967. Each case includes those papers filed with the court as part of the proceedings. Files may include wills, detailed lists of property, collections of claims by creditors, and various legal papers. Files may provide extensive information about the decedent, about costs for the period, and about the operation of a farm, business, or profession. This collection does not include all cases heard by the Probate Court in the period 1893 to 1908; there are a number of gaps and missing cases.

You may search the probate cases collection using the index below. Each entry includes the name of the decedent, the case number, the date of filing, and, often. additional remarks. The case files are available at the County Archives.

This table contains the daily 7-day average case rates for Santa Clara County residents by age and vaccination status as well as the 7-day average case counts and population estimates to calculate these rates. Residents are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of the vaccine, and residents are considered unvaccinated if they have not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. People who are partially vaccinated are not included in either category.

Counties are experiencing temporary fluctuations in vaccination data received from the State of California due to a data reconciliation process involving integration of vaccination data systems by the State. The data reconciliation process and associated fluctuations in county vaccination are expected to be resolved by mid-April 2022

This dataset includes information on worksite outbreaks reported to the Santa Clara County Public Health Department. Data are updated as the County receives information that is more complete or accurate, therefore the number of outbreaks and information about each outbreak may change through this process. Please note that there is a lag in the data due to the time required for outbreaks to be investigated, closed, and the data processed.

Residents and staff working at these facilities and who are residents of Santa Clara County are included in these counts.
